SuperSmart's S-Acetyl Glutathione is a food supplement that provides reduced glutathione in S-acetylated form, designed to improve its stability and bioavailability compared to conventional glutathiones. This form helps maintain cellular oxidative balance and is suitable as antioxidant support. This innovative form allows glutathione to escape oxidation in the intestine, maximizing its bioavailability and effective entry into human body cells. Glutathione is a molecule naturally synthesized in human body cells. It is composed of three amino acids: glutamic acid, cysteine, and glycine. Its production decreases with age, and, in certain cases, is insufficient to properly defend the body.
Once in the intestine, glutathione molecules are surrounded by intestinal enzymes, gamma-glutamyl-transpeptidases, which transform them into relatively useless compounds. However, some molecules escape these attacks: they cross the intestinal barrier even before being oxidized by enzymes, thus reaching the bloodstream in a fully functional state. Unfortunately, the proportion of these molecules is low, so large quantities of glutathione must be ingested for supplementation to be truly effective. One relevant strategy to benefit from glutathione is to bind it to an acetyl group, to prevent its oxidation by enzymes. Acetylated glutathione then crosses the intestinal barrier, penetrates cells, and then loses its acetyl group under the effect of cytoplasmic thioesterases. This is one of the most effective solutions for increasing serum glutathione levels, along with the sublingual route. Sublingual glutathione reaches the bloodstream without passing through the intestine and, therefore, without crossing the path of gamma-glutamyl-transpeptidases.
